The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has asked the Black Challenge, the champions of the 2024 Amputee Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), to provide a detailed account of the gifts they received from stakeholders after their victory.
The team returned to Ghana after successfully defending their title by defeating Morocco 2-1 in the final held in Cairo, Egypt.
Unlike last year, when the team came directly to his office, they delayed their visit this year, which the Minister found disappointing. He expressed his disapproval, stating that they should have come to his office first instead of going from one place to another without recourse to the government who sponsored them.
The Minister emphasized that as a national team, they represent the state, and therefore, any gifts or donations received are considered state property. He explained that the team should account for the donations they received, as they belong to the state, not the team. The government will then complement what they have already received.
The Minister directed the team to present a documentation of all gifts they have received since their return home. He will communicate with them after they have presented all the statements in his office.
The Black Challenge had earlier presented their trophy to former President John Dramani Mahama and received a gift of US$10,000.
