In the wake of the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, Deputy Minister of Defence, Brogya Genfi, confirmed that all personnel involved in the recruitment screening have been temporarily removed from their duties. The decision is part of a thorough investigation aimed at uncovering the sequence of events that led to the deadly incident.

The chaos on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, claimed six lives and left 28 others injured, five of whom remain in critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital. Twelve additional victims are undergoing serious treatment.

Genfi stressed that the Ministry of Defence is collaborating closely with security agencies and other investigative bodies to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry. He emphasized that anyone found negligent or responsible for lapses during the exercise would face strict consequences.

The directive to step aside is intended to prevent interference with the investigation while reinforcing the government’s commitment to safety in future recruitment drives. Officials have been urged to learn from the incident and implement measures that protect applicants and maintain order during large-scale military enlistments.

This tragic event has sparked national concern and renewed calls for reforms to safeguard the wellbeing of young Ghanaians seeking military service.
