A heated controversy has erupted after Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James claimed that her inspiration for creating Priscilla Ojo’s wedding dress came directly from the Holy Spirit.
The designer, who recently crafted the stunning bridal outfit for Priscilla—daughter of actress Iyabo Ojo—shared a detailed behind-the-scenes video of the dress-making process following the wedding to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux.
Veekee revealed that she had pushed herself to the limit during the process, even suffering from voice strain due to fatigue, but insisted it was prayer and divine intervention that carried her through.
Her comments, however, didn’t sit well with everyone.
Evangelist Benita Okeke responded sharply, posting a video to express her disapproval. She questioned whether a revealing dress like that could truly be the result of divine direction, criticizing Veekee for attaching spiritual significance to a design she considered immodest.
In her view, invoking the Holy Spirit to justify such an outfit sends a misleading message to believers. “We must understand that not all inspiration is divine,” the evangelist emphasized, suggesting that personal feelings and worldly influence can often be mistaken for spiritual guidance.
Evangelist Okeke further warned Christians against accepting every artistic expression as God-inspired, especially when the end result seems to contradict basic values of modesty upheld by the faith.
As the discussion continues online, many are weighing in on where to draw the line between faith and fashion. Veekee James has not yet issued a response to the growing backlash.
