The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has announced completion timelines for the Suame Interchange Project following an inspection tour on Tuesday.
The ongoing Phase 2 of the project, which covers local roads, is scheduled for completion by October 2026, while the main 3-tier interchange will be completed by October 2028.
The announcement follows the government’s recent payment of $29.5 million in outstanding arrears to the contractor, Rango Construction Limited.
A communication by the Ministry of Road and Highway said the Phase 2 works are designed to improve local connectivity and traffic flow during the construction of the main interchange.
The scope includes widening 3.1 km of the Offinso Road (N10) into a dual carriageway with three lanes on each side.
It also covers the construction of three overpasses: the Suame Overpass at Anomangye Junction, the New Maakro Overpass at Magazine New Road Junction, and the Abusuakruwa Overpass at Abusuakruwa Junction.
In addition, 15 km of critical local roads will be constructed under this phase.
The Ministry reiterated that road projects in the Ashanti Region remain a priority for the government as it highlighted steady progress on other major projects, including the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, the Kumasi Outer Ring Road, and ongoing upgrades on the Inner Ring Road.
The Suame Interchange is expected to ease congestion and improve traffic flow in one of Kumasi’s busiest corridors.
