Former Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has stated that the construction of the Suame Interchange or any major road project by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not negatively affect the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral prospects in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Asenso-Boakye said governance is a continuous process, and infrastructure development should not be driven by partisan considerations.

He noted that many of Kumasi’s major road projects were initiated under previous NPP administrations led by former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, there is nothing wrong with the NDC continuing or initiating road projects in the region, emphasizing that Kumasi’s status as a major economic hub and tax contributor justifies sustained investment regardless of voting patterns.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye stressed that road construction should be guided by the need for economic growth and development, not electoral calculations.

“The government is a continuous process. I don’t believe that if the NDC develops the Suame Interchange or any other project, it will significantly impact our votes in the region for the upcoming election. Major infrastructure projects in Kumasi have been carried out by NPP governments, specifically those of Akufo-Addo and Kufuor.

There is nothing wrong with them working on the roads. Kumasi is a major economic center, and residents pay taxes, so it shouldn’t be the case that they don’t vote for the NDC. The deployment of road projects should focus on economic growth and development rather than political gain,” he said.
