Sunda Ghana Limited, producers of Softcare sanitary pads, has donated 10,000 packs of sanitary pads to the Ministry of Education following a visit by the sector minister to the company’s production facility, in support of the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Initiative.
The company says the donation will help strengthen girl-child education, stressing that girls play a vital role in the development of every nation.
Group Chief Executive Michael Kofi Baako noted that investing in the education of girls is critical to national development, describing the government’s initiative as laudable and worthy of corporate support.
As one of the largest manufacturers of sanitary pads globally, producing about 80 million packs annually, Mr Baako indicated that the company is well-positioned and willing to supply products under the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Initiative.
“Education is a game changer, and the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Initiative is commendable because education will shape the future of our children, particularly girls,” he said.
He added that the company strictly complies with Ghana Standards Authority requirements to ensure product quality. According to him, Sunda Ghana employs about 1,000 Ghanaians, with more than half of the workforce being women.
Mr Baako also thanked the Minister for Education and the government for championing the interests of Ghanaian students through the initiative.
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, after receiving the donation, directed that the sanitary pads be distributed to Christian Methodist Senior High School, the nearest second-cycle institution to the factory, to support female students.
