SuperSport has announced plans to broadcast all 104 matches of the expanded FIFA World Cup 2026™, marking what it describes as the most extensive and accessible coverage of the global football showpiece for viewers across Africa.
The broadcaster, a subsidiary of MultiChoice Group under the CANAL+ network, said the tournament will be available live to subscribers on DStv packages ranging from Access to Premium, as well as on GOtv platforms, ensuring wider reach than previous editions.
The 2026 tournament, organised by FIFA, will run from June 11 to July 19 across host nations Mexico, the United States and Canada. It will be the first edition to feature 48 teams, up from the traditional 32, resulting in a record 104 matches and making it the longest World Cup in history.
SuperSport said the expanded format would offer African audiences unprecedented access to the competition, with live broadcasts, highlights and repeat showings forming part of the coverage.
To promote the announcement, the platform partnered with Idris Elba, who revealed that all matches would be shown live, describing the tournament as a historic moment for African football fans.
The 2026 edition is expected to feature a record 10 African teams following qualification from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Countries including Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt and South Africa are among those anticipated to represent the continent, signalling what industry observers see as Africa’s strongest presence at a World Cup.
SuperSport executives say the coverage will be complemented by new magazine shows, expert analysis and culturally tailored content, including programming in selected African languages, to enhance the viewing experience.
Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Director for Content and Sports in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, said the broadcaster was committed to delivering high-quality coverage to match the significance of the tournament.
“We are thrilled to announce that our subscribers in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa will get to witness yet another historic FIFA World Cup on Your World of Champions, SuperSport.
“With Africa sending its biggest-ever contingent to Mexico, Canada and the USA, we are proud to bring Africans the biggest global sports showpiece in the SuperSport quality that they have become accustomed to. As this is the most eagerly anticipated FIFA World Cup from an African perspective since 2010, we are excited that more people will be able to watch the action through a DStv Access subscription package.
“We are also looking forward to bringing our subscribers special broadcast features tailored to unique cultures and some local African languages.”
The broadcaster said the move reflects its broader strategy to deepen sports access across the continent while leveraging digital platforms such as the MyDStv and MyGOtv applications to improve customer experience.
The announcement underscores growing competition in sports broadcasting across Africa, with providers increasingly seeking to secure premium rights and expand access as demand for live global sporting events continues to rise.
