Dr. Joshua Zaato has voiced strong suspicions over the recent decisions by the Attorney General to drop several high-profile cases, suggesting a possible pattern of political bias in the selection of which prosecutions continue and which are abandoned.
In a recent interview, Dr. Zaato noted that the government may have shifted from its original mission of recovering stolen assets to what he sarcastically described as an “Operation Clear All Loot” agenda. He referenced a recent letter from the Attorney General, arguing that the document gave no valid reason—such as the duration of the legal process—for ending the cases, even though such a justification has been suggested elsewhere.
He emphasized that nowhere in the AG’s official communication was “time” cited as a contributing factor for discontinuing the prosecutions. According to him, this omission raises serious questions about the rationale behind the move.
Beyond the lack of clear justification, Dr. Zaato highlighted a disturbing trend. He observed that all the individuals whose charges were recently dropped have ties to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), while those still facing legal action are linked to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP). This, he argued, cannot simply be brushed off as coincidence.
He questioned how such decisions, presented without strong deterrent messages or consequences, are supposed to discourage corruption or theft in public office. In his view, the recent actions of the Attorney General neither inspire accountability nor send a message that wrongdoing will be punished.
Dr. Zaato’s remarks, which were featured in a video shared by TV3 Ghana on Instagram on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, have since triggered a wave of public reaction, as Ghanaians debate the fairness and transparency of the country’s justice system.
