The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has disclosed that tackling youth unemployment is now the government’s central focus for the country’s next phase of economic reforms following efforts to stabilise the economy.
Speaking shortly after meeting the Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Bank Group, Paschal Donohoe, in Accra, explained that the John Dramani Mahama-led government is shifting attention toward job creation after what he describes as a year focused on resetting the country’s finances and placing the economy on a sustainable path.
According to him, public sector employment alone cannot absorb Ghana’s rapidly growing youth population.
The Finance Minister said the government is therefore rolling out major policies and programmes aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities and expanding private sector growth.
The World Bank Group has meanwhile indicated its readiness to support Ghana’s efforts, including through a Jobs and Growth Analysis expected to identify new areas for job creation and economic expansion.
