A 16-year-old girl has been arrested for setting her ex-boyfriend’s room ablaze in New Nkusukum, a suburb of Mankessim in the Central Region. The incident occurred after the boyfriend, Stephen Agbobli, ended their relationship due to her alleged infidelity.
Witnesses said that the suspect went to her boyfriend’s place of employment, a cornmill shop, and made a money demand. But after telling her he was ending their relationship, they got into a furious fight. Despite the suspect’s cries for forgiveness, her boyfriend pulled her from the store.
Later, after locking the doors and windows, she went to his room, poured kerosene into it, and lit it on fire. Residents put out the fire before it could spread to the 22-bedroom home. Reportedly, the suspect’s desire for vengeance against her ex-boyfriend drove her acts.
The accused has acknowledged committing the crime and begged for pardon, claiming she helped pay for some of the objects in the room.
The incident has sparked concerns about the increasing cases of violence among teenagers in relationships and people are wondering how a teenager could do such a thing. The suspect is currently assisting police investigations at the Mankessim Police Station, and faces charges for arson and destruction of property.
