The Telecel Ghana Foundation has commissioned a fully refurbished Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory at Bamboi D/A Junior High School in the Savannah Region, in a renewed push to bridge the country’s digital divide and enhance access to technology-driven education.

The project, delivered through the Foundation’s Employee Volunteering Programme (EVP), also known as Red Hearts, mobilises Telecel staff to contribute time, skills and resources towards community development initiatives. In this instance, the company’s Technology Team led the transformation of the school’s previously under-resourced ICT facility into a modern digital learning centre.

Before the intervention, students had limited exposure to computers, restricting their ability to acquire basic digital literacy skills. The upgraded facility now includes desktop computers, high-speed internet connectivity, a projector, an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and other learning tools designed to support interactive teaching and practical ICT lessons.

Speaking at the commissioning, Head of Foundation, Sustainability and External Communications at Telecel Ghana, Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, underscored the importance of equal access to digital resources in education.

“At Telecel Ghana Foundation, we believe that access to digital tools is a necessity for every child. By empowering schools like Bamboi D/A JHS with the resources they need, we are enhancing teaching and learning as well as preparing students to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Our employee volunteers are at the heart of this impact, demonstrating that collective action can drive meaningful change in our communities,” she said.

She added that the initiative aligns with the Foundation’s broader goal of promoting digital inclusion and improving educational outcomes in underserved communities under its Connected Learning pillar.

School authorities and community stakeholders welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and transformative. They noted that the facility would significantly improve ICT instruction while offering students their first structured exposure to practical digital learning experiences.

The ICT lab upgrade forms part of Telecel Ghana Foundation’s ongoing investment in education-focused social interventions aimed at expanding access to digital infrastructure, particularly in rural communities.

The Foundation says its broader strategy continues to support Ghana’s digital transformation agenda through targeted investments in education, health and digital inclusion, while fostering partnerships that create sustainable opportunities for young people.
