A major drug-related arrest has rocked the Ada area in the Greater Accra Region as the Tema Regional Police Command apprehended a 29-year-old woman, Sophia Amankwa, for allegedly possessing a massive quantity of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The arrest took place at Dogo Junction, Ada, on June 25, 2025, following a successful police operation that intercepted a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12. The truck’s driver, however, managed to flee the scene before police could apprehend him.
During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered 3,900 compressed slabs tightly wrapped in cello tape and packed into 52 sacks. The contents are believed to be Indian hemp, also known locally as “wee.”
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, head of the Public Relations Department of the Tema Regional Police Command, confirmed that preliminary investigations linked the consignment to Sophia Amankwa, who is now in custody and assisting with further investigations.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched a manhunt for the runaway driver and other possible accomplices involved in the suspected drug trafficking operation.
