The president never said he won’t sign anti-LGBTQ bill – Bawumia’s campaign team

Speaking on behalf of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has verified that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is willing to sign the anti-gay bill should it come to his desk.

Speaking on Friday, April 12, Aboagye reaffirmed President Akufo-Addo’s unwavering opposition to LGBT+ activities and expressed optimism that the controversial measure will have the President’s support.

He claims that the president never stated that he would not sign the legislation.

Aboagye urged Ghanaians to offer constructive critique of the bill, stressing the value of input in modifying laws to better serve the needs of the nation.

These remarks come after Dr. Bawumia publicly criticized LGBT+ initiatives on Thursday, April 11, during Eid prayers in Kumasi, in front of thousands of Muslims. Citing the acts’ contradiction with Islamic teachings and Ghana’s cultural and societal standards, Dr. Bawumia vehemently denounced LGBT+ practices.
