A cunning thief, believed to be in his 60s, has been caught and handed over to the police after a string of thefts at marriage ceremonies. The suspect, who dresses discreetly and poses as a family member, had been stealing phones, laptops, and iPads from unsuspecting attendees.
In a surprising twist, the thief was caught by a household he had previously targeted during a similar event. The family, who had been victimized by the thief in the past, recognized him and confronted him, leading to his capture.
The suspect’s modus operandi involved blending in with the crowd, often by dressing in attire similar to that of the wedding party or guests. He would then strike, snatching valuables from tables or pockets, and disappear into the crowd.
As news of the suspect’s capture spread, social media users took to their platforms to share their thoughts.
“God punish poverty. Herh as old as he is, why will he do this if not poverty? May God bless our works so that our children won’t be disappointed in us,” wrote one user.
Others expressed sympathy for the suspect, with one Twitter user noting, “Life make hard ahh, even seniors are stealing…sane person will tell u 4 more too ooh …hmmm.”
But not everyone was sympathetic. “What if he just took the items to secure them for their owners?” asked one user, raising questions about the suspect’s motivations.
Some joked about the situation, with one quipping, “Bad market for Olu that day, settings paaa Nie.”
Others expressed frustration with the state of the country, with one Twitter user writing, “Leave him alone! The country make hard.”
The suspect is currently in the custody of the police.
