Three people impersonating Bagbin, IGP arrested

The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has arrested three suspects in the Dabala and Sogakope areas of the Volta Region for allegedly impersonating high-profile public officials on social media to defraud unsuspecting victims.

The suspects are said to have posed as the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; the Inspector General of Police, Dr Christian Tetteh Yohuno; and other influential personalities, in order to gain the trust of victims and carry out fraudulent activities.

According to a press release dated December 19, 2025, it said investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in multiple forms of cybercrime, including Mobile Money fraud, credit card fraud, airtime sales fraud and online sales fraud across various social media platforms.

“The suspects are also involved in momo fraud, credit card fraud, airtime sales fraud and online sales fraud on the various social media platforms,” the statement said.

The suspects have been identified as Gideon Awudi, 25; Edem Soku, 33; and Judith Soku, 31.

They were arrested at Sogakope and Dabala following a sustained intelligence-led operation.

The operation was conducted in the Sogakope, Dzodze, and Penyi areas after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.

The suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations as authorities work to dismantle the wider network involved in the fraudulent activities.
