A popular TikTok content creator who goes by the name Tsulange has found himself on the wrong side of the law after a controversial stunt landed him behind bars.
The internet comedian, whose real name is Umar Hashim, has been sentenced to a one-year prison term by a magistrate court in Kano State for what authorities have called “public misconduct.” The case stems from a viral video where Hashim was seen bathing on a public road while dressed in women’s underwear—a clip he had posted as part of a comedy skit.
The video sparked backlash on social media and drew the attention of the Kano State Censorship Board, which quickly moved to take legal action. The board argued that the stunt breached public morality standards and filed charges against him.
Presiding over the case at Gyadi Gyadi, Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan ruled that Hashim’s actions crossed the line of acceptable public behavior. The court offered the option of avoiding jail time if he pays a fine of ₦80,000 instead.
Additionally, the influencer has been ordered to pay ₦20,000 to cover the cost of the board’s investigation and legal proceedings.
Hashim had been arrested in June 2025 shortly after the skit gained traction online. The court emphasized that such rulings are necessary to uphold societal values and discourage acts considered inappropriate or offensive in public.
What was meant to be a joke for laughs has now turned into a serious lesson for the skit maker—and possibly for others who toe the line in the name of content.
