A devastating road accident near Wakrom Junction, close to Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra highway, left five people dead and twelve others injured on Monday, September 15, 2025.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the collision involved a DAF truck, carrying 700 bags of rice, and a Toyota Hiace passenger van. The crash occurred around 2:45 P.M., sending shockwaves across the busy highway.
A GNFS rescue team arrived at the scene shortly after, at 2:59 P.M., and immediately began rescue operations. Five victims were trapped in the wreckage. Four were pronounced dead at the hospital, while another was critically injured. Twelve additional passengers had already been taken to hospital prior to the rescue team’s arrival, one of whom later succumbed to injuries, bringing the death toll to five.
The truck’s driver and mate escaped without injuries. Emergency services worked swiftly to clear the wreckage and manage the heavy traffic caused by the accident.
Authorities have confirmed that the injured are receiving medical attention at a nearby facility, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collision.
