The community of Teshie-Nungua Estate will come together tomorrow to observe the one-week passing of Emmanuel Noel Asare Adams, a young footballer who tragically lost his life in a drowning incident on the Accra-Tema motorway.
Adams, affectionately known as Marcelo, was a skilled player who had earned a reputation among his peers. To honor his memory, his friends have organized a football match at Tep’s Park, Teshie Estate, to celebrate his life and passion for the sport.
The 24-year-old’s life was cut short when his vehicle fell from the Abattoir bridge and was swept away by floodwaters, claiming two lives. The Ghana National Fire Service recovered his vehicle and rescued two female occupants who were with him.
The one-week observation will be held on June 1.
As news of his passing spread, social media users took to various platforms to pay their tributes and express their shock and sadness. “Yehowa 25 years wasted,” wrote one user, “what a waste!” Another user shared a fond memory, saying “If he knew his life would be short like this, I’m sure he wouldn’t have allowed that wicked French teacher to lash him at JHS. Oh hmmmm.”
Others expressed frustration at the preventable nature of the tragedy, with one user commenting “All the guardrails are either damaged or not installed. This could’ve prevented this. Another youth gone from a preventable death.” Another user simply lamented “Life is short, appreciate those around you.”
