Accra witnessed a disturbing scene on Friday afternoon when a man lost his life in a road crash at the busy Alajo Junction.
The victim, whose identity had not been confirmed at the time, was killed instantly after a heavy-duty truck with registration number GS 4295-21 ran over him. Eyewitness accounts suggested he may have been riding a motorcycle and attempted to overtake the truck before being struck.
The impact left him trapped beneath the vehicle’s rear tyres, where he was dragged several meters before the truck eventually came to a halt.
The accident caused panic among onlookers and led to a major traffic jam stretching from the Abeka Junction traffic light, past the Police Training Academy at Tesano, and all the way to the Alajo traffic light.
Police officers were quickly dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and coordinate the removal of the body. By 12:50 p.m., nearly an hour after the incident, the victim’s remains were still lodged beneath the truck as authorities worked to clear the area.
The tragic incident adds to the growing concern over road safety at some of Accra’s busiest intersections, where motorcycle riders are often seen weaving through heavy traffic in risky maneuvers.
