Former Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has criticised Attorney General Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine over his choice of words regarding the lawyers engaged by former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta in the United States.

Dr Ayine, in an update on Ofori-Atta’s extradition process on December 18, 2025, described the lawyers hired by the former minister as “top-notch,” indicating their high calibre.

He added that this would not deter his resolve to bring the former minister back to Ghana to face justice.

“I just got to know yesterday that he has hired some of the top lawyers in the United States of America, very experienced lawyers, to defend him. Now, I’m not afraid at all. But it means that there is going to be a fight in the federal courts in the US,” Dr Ayine said.

Reacting to the remarks, Tuah-Yeboah argued that the Attorney General’s description of the lawyers was unnecessary.

“Now we are told that Ken Ofori-Atta has engaged lawyers. Personally speaking, it is right to engage lawyers, and I do not see why they should be described as top-notch… so maybe the AG ought not to have made that comment. He could have simply said that he has engaged lawyers,” he said on Newsfile on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Tuah-Yeboah suggested that the Attorney General’s comment may have been intended to prepare the Ghanaian public for the complexity of the extradition process, which could take a considerable amount of time.

“Maybe he’s trying to prepare the minds of Ghanaians that it’s not a short journey and that it may take some time. That one, I have no problem with,” he stated.

However, he maintained his criticism of the choice of words, arguing that all lawyers are essentially equal.

“My problem has to do with the description of the lawyers he has engaged. Whether they are top-notch or not, every lawyer is a lawyer,” he added.
