The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men in connection with a series of armed robberies in the Bolgatanga municipality and along the Bolgatanga-Walewale highway.

The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe, also known as “Mosbee”, and Jacob Akugri, also known as “Weezy”, were arrested in Kumasi on Friday, May 9, 2026, by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters Operations Unit.

The arrests followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance operations in Bolgatanga and Walewale.

According to preliminary police investigations, the two suspects were part of a robbery gang believed to have operated across the Upper East and North East regions.

The gang is alleged to have attacked people on roads and within communities, stealing cash, motorbikes and mobile phones. Police said some of the robbery incidents reportedly resulted in deaths.

Investigators also believe the gang used two AK-47 rifles and pistols during its operations.

The police said the two suspects admitted involvement in several robbery incidents during interrogation.

They reportedly identified the alleged leader of the gang as Issaka and named another suspected accomplice as Araafat.

The two suspects are currently on the run and are being pursued by the police.

According to the police, investigations are continuing to arrest the remaining members of the gang and identify persons suspected to have supplied weapons to the group.

Efforts are also being made to retrieve stolen items and identify other accomplices linked to the robberies.

The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations.

The police disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday, May 11, 2026.
