The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced missile attacks at the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), in southern Lebanon, leaving two soldiers critically wounded.
In a statement, it said the attack was a result of the fallout of the on-going IDF and Hezbollah exchanges took place around 5pm on Friday.
It reported that the attack has left one other soldier traumatised while the Officers’ Mess facility has been burnt to ashes.
According to the GAF, the injured have been stabilised and receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.
“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation as troops are currently safe in underground bunkers,” it assured.
Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has protested the unfortunate incident at the United Nation’s HQ in New York and urged the parties involved in the conflict in UNIFIL to be mindful of their responsibilities regarding the safety of all peacekeepers in the theatre.
