Two men, Mohammed Abdul-Salam, 28, and Karim Yakubu, 42, have been arrested by the Western Central Regional Police Command after being caught in what authorities believe was a planned robbery near Asankragua in the Western Region of Ghana.
The suspects were spotted by a vigilant police patrol while hiding in a bush by the side of the road. Upon noticing the police, the men attempted to flee, sparking a dramatic chase that led them toward an abandoned mining site.
In their desperation to escape, they jumped into a muddy pit, but the officers managed to pull them out and make the arrest.
A search of the men revealed disturbing items associated with potential criminal activity, including a shotgun, three AAA cartridges, and a basic Nokia mobile phone, further solidifying the police’s suspicions that the pair had planned a robbery.
Now in police custody, the suspects are assisting with ongoing investigations. The police have commended the swift response of the patrol team, which they say helped avert a potential robbery, and have urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity in their communities.
The investigation continues as authorities explore whether the two men are linked to any other crimes in the area. Further updates are expected as the case unfolds.
