In a significant blow to international drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the UK National Crime Agency have intercepted two British travelers at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) with a massive haul of cocaine.
The joint operation last Monday foiled a daring attempt to smuggle the illegal drugs worth $6.48 million.
Hall Shamin Ethline and Graham Omar Adel, the two suspects, were apprehended as they prepared to board a British Airways flight to Gatwick, London.
Authorities discovered six suitcases containing 72 slabs of suspected cocaine, weighing 166.88 kilograms. The seized drugs are estimated to have a street value of $6.48 million, making it one of the largest drug busts at KIA in recent years.
The successful operation demonstrates NACOC’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of all travelers, regardless of nationality.
