The Spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, Heorhii Tykhyi, has dismissed allegations by veteran journalist Kwasi Pratt that Ukraine supplied the “terrorists” who killed eight Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso.

In a tweet quoting the publication that reported the journalist’s claim, Mr Tykhyi said the stories are intended to distract attention from the visit of Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to Ukraine.

“We officially refute these allegations. Ukraine did not supply any ‘terrorists.’ Such fake stories are intended to distract attention from today’s historic and landmark visit of Ghana’s Foreign Minister to Ukraine. But they won’t succeed,” he said.

In a publication by news portal GhanaWeb, the Ghanaian journalist made the claim at a programme in a video it cited on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met with Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Their discussions focused on Ghana’s humanitarian appeal for the release of two Ghanaian nationals currently being held as prisoners of war in Ukraine.

In a Facebook post, the Minister said they also explored ways Ghana and Ukraine can collaborate to tackle trafficking networks that exploit vulnerable African youth, luring them into the ongoing conflict and placing their lives at risk.
