Upper West: Court convicts three over illegal firearms possession

The Ghana Police Service has secured the conviction of three individuals for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The Wa District Magistrate Court on February 18, convicted Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad and Adams Alhassan after they pleaded guilty to possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.

The three accused persons, who had earlier been remanded in custody, reappeared before the court where His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako presided over the case. They admitted the offences during proceedings.

Following their own pleas, the court fined each of them 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢2,400. In default of payment, they will serve nine months’ imprisonment.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has encouraged the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime and criminality in the region.
