The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Global Alumni, has honoured its former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joshua Alabi, for his transformative leadership and service.
In a special ceremony at the UPSA campus, the alumni presented Prof. Alabi with a customised anniversary polo shirt and a citation.
The event celebrated the recent conferment of an honorary doctorate degree on him and recognised his pivotal role in UPSA’s growth.
Meritorious service
The President of the UPSA Global Alumni, Francis Kodjo Dadzie, said it was fitting for the institution Prof. Alabi helped to build to celebrate him “with reverence.”
Prof. Alabi’s 40-year association with UPSA began as a professional accounting student in 1977. He returned as a lecturer in 1987, rising through the ranks to become Rector in 2009, and Vice-Chancellor from 2013 to 2016.
He is widely credited as the architect of UPSA’s successful transitional from the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) into a full-fledged public university, broadening its academic scope and global recognition.
Leadership
In his remarks, Prof. Alabi said, “I have always believed that leadership is about building people. If our students excel, UPSA excels.”
The honour underscores his enduring legacy as a key builder of one of Ghana’s leading professional universities.
