The US expects to end its operation in Iran in “weeks, not months”, Secretary of State Marco Rubio says, after a meeting of G7 foreign ministers.

He says the US can achieve its goals “without any ground troops” being deployed to Iran, adding Tehran may decide to set up a tolling system for the Strait of Hormuz.

G7 ministers have demanded an immediate end to attacks on civilians in the Iran war and say it’s an “absolute necessity” to reopen the Strait, one of the world’s busiest oil shipping channels.

Iranian state media reports that two nuclear-related facilities have been attacked – earlier, Israel’s defence minister warned strikes on Tehran would intensify.

Several Gulf nations report fresh strikes and interceptions, with the UAE saying its air defences engaged ballistic missiles and drones launched from Iran.

The UN’s human rights chief says a deadly strike on an Iranian school on the first day of the war sparked “visceral horror” – a mother whose two children were killed says the “truth must be brought to light”
