A high-powered delegation from the United States’ Savannah City Council has extended financial support to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, reaffirming ties formed more than two decades ago during a historic visit by the Asantehene.
The gesture, made on July 16, 2025, comes 23 years after the Council was first introduced to the Foundation during Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 2002 visit to Savannah, Georgia. Since then, the Council has quietly followed the progress of the Foundation, particularly its initiatives in education and community development.
Led by Dr. Joseph Silver, the team visited the Manhyia Palace to present the donation, specifically earmarked for the Foundation’s educational fund—a project the Council credits as a hallmark of Otumfuo’s reign. The team also included Savannah’s Mayor, Van Johnson.
In recognition of Otumfuo’s enduring impact and leadership, the delegation presented him with the key to the city, symbolizing Savannah’s highest honor and offering him unrestricted access as a distinguished guest.
Additionally, the Council offered a symbolic gift to convey their deep appreciation for the King’s warmth and hospitality during their visit, further cementing the long-standing relationship between Savannah and the Ashanti Kingdom.
