Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced that the Ghana Education Service (GES) will review existing academy discipline frameworks as part of efforts to address student misconduct early and prevent situations from escalating.

The Vice President made the announcement when she served as the Distinguished Guest of Honour at the 69th President’s Independence Day Awards Ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang explained that the review will be undertaken in close consultation with parents, teachers and educational resource persons to ensure the revised framework promotes responsible behaviour while safeguarding the welfare of students.

She added that the initiative aims to nurture responsible citizens who understand both their freedoms and the responsibilities that accompany them.

The Vice President also congratulated the young award recipients for their academic excellence and urged them to remain disciplined and focused as they enter what she described as an important phase of their lives.

She noted that the new stage would come with greater freedom, wider exposure and, in some cases, stronger temptations. She therefore encouraged the students to remain committed to their goals and aspirations.

“Excellence is not only about how well you perform in the classroom. It is also about how you conduct yourself when no one is watching.”

She further charged the students to strive not only for academic success, noting that the nation has high expectations of them.
