Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has visited the site of the collapsed building at the New Town area in Accra to assess the situation and gather first-hand information.
She was accompanied by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia, and other government officials.
Preliminary reports indicate that the collapsed structure was an uncompleted multi-storey building located within the premises of the Accra New Town Experimental School. The building, believed to be about 14 years old, had not been fully completed and was occasionally used by a group of Christian worshippers for services.
Official figures confirm that 20 people have been rescued, while three others have been pronounced dead.
During her inspection, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang raised concerns about the approval processes surrounding the building permit and condemned any lapses that may have contributed to the incident.
She emphasised the need for strict adherence to building regulations to prevent similar occurrences and ensure public safety.
The Vice President later visited victims receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, the University of Ghana Medical Centre, and the Police Hospital.
