Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has praised outstanding school children across the country for their dedication and discipline, describing them as the generation that will shape Ghana’s future.
During the President’s Independence Day Awards, on Wednesday, March 4, held under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” the Vice President joined education stakeholders to honour students who have demonstrated academic excellence and strong character.
The ceremony recognised 52 exceptional students from all 16 regions of Ghana, drawn from both public and private schools. The awardees also included students with visual and hearing impairments, highlighting the country’s commitment to inclusive education.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the achievements of the students reflect the values Ghana’s education system seeks to nurture.
She noted that while national prosperity is driven by strong policies and infrastructure, the character and discipline of citizens, especially the youth, remain equally important.
The Vice President therefore urged the award recipients to remain focused and uphold the values that earned them recognition.
“I encouraged the award recipients to remain focused, uphold integrity, respect authority, and serve as role models for their peers,” she said.
She also commended the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service for their continued commitment to promoting academic excellence across the country’s schools.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further acknowledged the role of private sector partners, particularly Nestlé Ghana Limited, for their longstanding support towards education initiatives in the country.
According to her, government remains committed to strengthening inclusive and quality education that equips Ghanaian children with the knowledge, skills and values needed to succeed.
“The Ghana we seek to build will be shaped by young citizens who combine excellence with integrity and leadership,” she said, expressing confidence that the country’s future remains in capable hands.
The President’s Independence Day Awards programme forms part of activities marking Ghana’s independence celebrations and aims to recognise hardworking students while encouraging academic excellence nationwide.
