Tensions have escalated in Sampa following disturbing reports of police misconduct amidst a chieftaincy dispute and the imposition of a curfew by the Ministry of Interior.
Several residents have come forward with allegations of torture and abuse at the hands of police officers wearing masks, purportedly enforcing the curfew protocols.
The situation in Sampa has been volatile in recent months due to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute, which has heightened community tensions and strained relations between residents and law enforcement authorities.
Against this backdrop, the imposition of a curfew by the Ministry of Interior was intended to restore order and ensure public safety.
However, reports of police brutality have only served to exacerbate an already fragile situation.
According to eyewitness accounts, some residents who failed to adhere to the curfew protocols were subjected to harsh treatment by masked police officers, including physical assault and torture.
These allegations have sparked outrage among the local community, with calls for accountability and justice echoing throughout the area.
The curfew is from 4:00 pm to 7:00 am each day effective Thursday, April 25, 2024, until further notice.
The conflict intensified, leading to violence between November 30, 2023, and March 29, 2024. Tragically, four individuals lost their lives, and numerous others suffered gunshot wounds, including a 12-year-old boy.
