In a tragic incident that underscores the dangers posed by recent flooding, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) yesterday retrieved a vehicle that had fallen from the Abattoir bridge on the Accra-Tema motorway.

The accident, which occurred during Saturday’s severe flooding, resulted in the deaths of all three occupants of the vehicle.

The vehicle, submerged by floodwaters, was discovered after an extensive search and rescue operation. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control due to the intense flooding, causing the vehicle to plunge off the bridge into the swollen waters below.

Tragically, the driver’s lifeless body was later found at the Lashibi-Klagon bridge, a considerable distance from the initial accident site. The two female passengers who were in the vehicle also perished in the incident.

GNFS personnel faced challenging conditions as they worked to retrieve the submerged vehicle and search for the victims. The flooding, caused by heavy rains, had significantly raised water levels, complicating the rescue efforts.
