A joint operation by the National Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force has resulted in the arrest of four individuals accused of smuggling cocoa to neighboring Togo.
The arrests were made at Kwahu Nketepa in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region.
According to reports, the task force intercepted two trucks carrying a total of 400 bags of cocoa, which were allegedly being smuggled out of the country.
The National Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force has been working to combat the illicit trade of cocoa, which is a major export commodity for Ghana.
The task force’s efforts aim to prevent the smuggling of cocoa and ensure that the country derives maximum benefits from its cocoa production.
The four suspects are currently in custody, facing charges related to cocoa smuggling.
The seized trucks and cocoa have been impounded, and further investigations are underway to uncover the extent of the smuggling operation.
The successful operation by the National Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force is seen as a significant step in the fight against cocoa smuggling, and it is expected to serve as a deterrent to others involved in the illicit trade.
