Ambassador Bishop Sam Owusu, the General Overseer and Founder of Pottersville Church, has shared his thoughts on the spiritual challenges facing Ghanaian comic actor Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face.
The actor has been in the spotlight recently due to a series of concerning outbursts on social media, where he has lashed out at various people, including his own children and their mother, Vanessa.
According to Bishop Sam Owusu, the root cause of Funny Face’s troubles can be traced back to an incident involving a close friend.
The prophet claimed that years ago, a friend gave Funny Face a “wee toffee” (a cannabis-laced sweet), which triggered a downward spiral in his life.
This act, according to the bishop, was designed to disrupt the actor’s mental state and has contributed to his ongoing challenges.
Bishop Owusu went on to reveal that Funny Face had been warned about this potential trap in a vision.
A prophet reportedly cautioned him about receiving something as seemingly harmless as a toffee, which would lead to serious problems. However, Funny Face allegedly ignored the warning, dismissing the idea that he could be harmed by something so trivial.
The bishop also emphasized that the actor’s problems are more spiritual than physical, suggesting that the mental health issues Funny Face has been battling are tied to deeper spiritual forces.
He linked the strained relationship with his ex-partner, Vanessa, to these same spiritual influences, implying that his current struggles have roots in disobedience and failure to heed divine warnings.
The pastor concluded his sermon by reiterating that Funny Face’s challenges, which have lasted over five years, are far from simple.
His claims suggest that resolving these issues will require more than just physical intervention—it will also need spiritual healing and reconciliation.
This perspective aligns with broader beliefs in many parts of Africa, where mental health and personal struggles are sometimes viewed as the result of spiritual or supernatural interference.
“It was wee toffee for more than five years now, the guy cannot recover. A friend just gave him a wee toffee and ate it, and became mad. He was going to church and prophet told him— I see someone giving you a toffee but he denied because he said he’s not a kid so what is he using a toffee for.”
