A massive reception greeted Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as he returned to Ghana through the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi.
The revered Asante monarch had taken a brief trip abroad following a year-long celebration marking the remarkable milestones of his reign in 2024.
His return drew a huge crowd to the airport, where people from all walks of life gathered to honor him. High-profile traditional leaders and public officials were present for the occasion.
Among them were Juabenhene Nana Otuo Sereboe II, Asafohene Akyeamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu, Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, former Manhyia South MP Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjo, and Brigadier General Matthew Opoku of the Central Command.
After landing, Otumfuo made a symbolic and culturally significant visit to the palace of Nana Konadu Yiadom II, the Asantehemaa, to pay his respects in keeping with Asante tradition. This gesture reaffirmed the unity between the King and his maternal lineage.
With renewed vigor, the King is poised to dive into a packed calendar. A key engagement on his immediate schedule is his mediation in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy dispute.
Set to take place at the Manhyia Palace between April 28 and May 1, 2025, the dialogue will bring together key parties in an effort to find lasting peace.
Beyond peacebuilding, Otumfuo’s itinerary includes high-profile events like the 25th Anniversary fundraising for his Foundation and the prestigious Millennium Excellence Awards.
He is also expected to lead deliberations within the Kumasi Traditional Council and the broader Asanteman Council, where his leadership remains central to regional governance and tradition.
