Lovista Owusu, the LPG Parliamentary candidate for Bekwai Constituency, has pledged to provide one “bofrot” (a local doughnut) to each student in basic and junior high schools.
This declaration was made during his campaign as he toured the constituency, aiming to gain the trust of potential voters.
Owusu highlighted his commitment to complementing President Nana Addo’s free school meal initiative, which provides meals for students.
He expressed his desire to contribute to the welfare of students by offering this additional snack alongside the existing school meals.
However, this pledge has not been without its critics. Some individuals have ridiculed the promise, labelling it as impractical and even absurd.
During election periods, it is not uncommon for political candidates to make exaggerated promises to appeal to voters, and Owusu’s “bofrot” plan has become a subject of debate in the constituency.
Despite the criticism, Owusu appears determined to demonstrate his intention to support students and make a difference in their everyday lives, as he continues his campaign for the parliamentary seat in Bekwai.
Whether his pledge will resonate with voters or be dismissed as a populist gimmick remains to be seen.
The Liberal Party of Ghana emerged from the Independent People’s Party, founded by Kofi Akpaloo in 2011. Over time, the party underwent a transformation and adopted its current name.
