A mobile money vendor in Kaneshie, Accra, was left stranded and on the verge of tears yesterday after a shocking discovery. The vendor, who received a large sum of cash from a customer, was stunned to find that the money had turned to paper.
According to eyewitnesses, the vendor had counted the cash before sending it to the customer’s mobile money account. However, when the customer later checked their account, they discovered that the cash had been replaced with paper.
The vendor was left stranded, unable to comprehend how the cash had turned to paper.
Social media users have reacted with shock and sympathy, with many calling for the introduction of a system to flag Ghana cards linked to criminal activity.
“The receiver has registered the sim with Ghana card and can be traced. Ghana police need to introduce a system whereby any Ghana card can be flagged for criminal activity,” wrote one user.
Others have shared similar experiences, suspecting enchantment or trickery. “I kaiii my own for Madina. I could swear I didn’t sell one tigo scratch card. But after an encounter with one old man. Part of the cards were gone, money gone. I was called a thief. Couldn’t defend myself ever,” shared a user.
Some have expressed disbelief, attributing the incident to trickery rather than spiritual enchantment. “I wonder how people think this is spiritual. Ebibi fuor agyimi too much ah this be trick wey chop am. Them make he lose focus wey dem change the money. So sad,” wrote a user.
