A tragic incident at the Paradise Rest Stop on the Accra-Kumasi highway has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about police conduct.
A motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a fatal crash and lay on the ground crying for help, but police officers at the scene reportedly ignored his pleas.
The incident, which was captured on video and has since gone viral, shows the motorcyclist slipping and falling off his bike. As he lay on the ground, visibly in pain and calling for assistance, two police officers can be seen in the background, directing traffic and seemingly indifferent to the injured man.
In the video, bystanders are heard expressing their frustration and disbelief. One person is heard questioning, “Why aren’t they helping him? He may survive.” Another voice suggests, “They can stop a car and even put him into the hospital.”
The lack of response from the police has drawn widespread condemnation. Eyewitnesses and viewers of the video have criticized the officers for failing to provide immediate aid or facilitate transportation to a medical facility, actions that could have potentially saved the man’s life.
Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
The incident has also renewed calls for better training and protocols for emergency response among law enforcement personnel.
