The Volta Regional Health Directorate has confirmed the arrest of one of its drivers over the alleged unlawful possession of suspected narcotic substances, stressing that it has initiated internal investigations alongside ongoing police probes.
In a statement signed by the Volta Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, the Directorate said it had become aware of a viral media report linking a staff member to a narcotics-related incident and moved swiftly to verify the facts.
According to the Directorate, on Friday, January 23, 2026, the Transport Unit received information that Mr Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, a driver with the Directorate, had been arrested and detained at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters in Ho.
The arrest, the statement said, was connected to Mr Dogbey allegedly driving an official vehicle belonging to the Directorate, with registration number GV 2460-14, which was reportedly loaded with items suspected to be narcotic substances.
“Management immediately dispatched a team to the Regional Police Headquarters to follow up on the matter, and the incident was confirmed by the Police,” Dr Dodor stated.
He added that the driver is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations being conducted by the Ghana Police Service.
While police investigations continue, the Volta Regional Health Directorate says it is also taking independent steps to address the issue internally. Dr Dodor disclosed that processes have begun to constitute a Committee of Enquiry to investigate the incident from an administrative standpoint.
The Directorate is also moving to tighten controls around the use of its logistics.
“Measures are being put in place to strengthen monitoring and tracking of all official vehicles to prevent the recurrence of such incidents,” the statement noted.
Dr Dodor emphasised that the Directorate remains committed to integrity and professionalism, assuring the public that the incident will not be treated lightly.
