W/R: NAIMOS Operatives Destroy Equipment Used to Pollute Ankobrah River

Operatives of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) have destroyed some equipment used for illegal mining around the Yorn River in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

In an intelligence-led operation on February 11, 2026, the team raided the said area where the illegal miners operated and discharged mining waste directly into the Yorn River, which flows into the Ankobrah River.

The team, however, met some Changfan machines at the scene, indicating the galamseyers had fled the scene on a tip-off.

“The said Changfan machines, other mining equipment and two (2) motorbikes found at the site were destroyed to prevent further illegal mining activities. Two (2) water pumping machines were also seized at the site,” the team reported.

In a second raid conducted at the Cape Three Points Forest Reserve in the Ahanta West Municipality, three suspects, identified as Joseph Mensah, 22 years old, Abdulia Dauda, 27 years old, and Kabre Daniel, 27 years old, were arrested.

The suspects were among about 20 illegal miners who were at the site.

The team further reported extensive destruction of a rubber plantation, sections of the forest reserve, as well as significant pollution of the Butre River within the enclave due to galamsey activities.

As part of the raid in the reserve, the NAIMOS team destroyed Changfan machines, four water pumping machines, Several water hoses and makeshift structures and personal belongings of the illegal miners and others.
