The West African Health Organization (WAHO) has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Ghana on the occasion of the nation’s 69th Independence Anniversary.

In a goodwill message marking the celebration, WAHO lauded Ghana’s historic role as the first Sub-Saharan African country to gain independence, describing the country as a lasting symbol of leadership and commitment to Pan-African ideals.

According to the regional health body, Ghana’s continued engagement within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has significantly contributed to strengthening regional integration and advancing collective health policies across West Africa.

WAHO commended Ghana’s consistent efforts toward regional cooperation, noting that the country’s leadership has helped drive initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of people throughout the sub-region.

The organization also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining close collaboration with Ghana and other ECOWAS member states in promoting stronger health systems and better outcomes for populations across West Africa.

Ghana celebrates its Independence Day annually on March 6, marking the country’s liberation from colonial rule in 1957 and its emergence as a beacon of freedom and inspiration for many nations across the African continent.
