A recent auction of government vehicles in the Bekwai Municipal District has raised eyebrows among locals, with one constituent expressing shock and disappointment at the sale of a Nissan Patrol for a mere GH¢3200.
The constituent in a video, questioned the logic behind selling off valuable government assets at such low prices. He believes these vehicles were in good condition and could have been sold for a much higher price.
According to him, it’s unacceptable that they were sold off so cheaply.
The auction has sparked concerns about the transparency and fairness of the process. Many are wondering if the vehicles were sold to private individuals with connections to the authorities, rather than being opened up to the general public.
Bekwai Municipal District Assembly has yet to comment on the matter, but locals are calling for an investigation into the auction process.
The video which was shared online had the following reactions:
“Last year cape coast RCC some big man be buy V8 7,800 auction oo so this one no be news.”
“They guy way dey confused me or the say now way they dey bring the cars they go autcion am for 3200 Ghana or ebe say the assembly dey sell am to constituents for the 3200 cedis? SIKAOFFICIAL The GUYY.”
“Can you imagine what these folks are doing? They must be probed.”
“Why do they auction the cars that are still needed ? Why does our taxpayers money needed to be spent to buy new cars ? Why is the auction not nationalized and published in newspapers ? Local government in Ghana needs to be re-visited.”
