(Watch) Priestesses Steal Spotlight at Asantehemaa’s One-Week Observance
  • During the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III, held on August 21, 2025, priestesses of the Asante Kingdom performed striking rituals to honor her memory and pay respects to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
  • The cultural display, shared widely on social media, featured symbolic acts including egg-breaking, crawling, and ceremonial gestures.
  • Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 14th Asantehemaa and sister to the Asantehene, was revered for her wisdom and devotion to tradition.

The Manhyia Palace became a living canvas of tradition and reverence as mourners gathered for the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. But it was the priestesses of the Asante Kingdom who left a lasting impression — their rituals, raw and symbolic, stirred emotion and sparked conversation far beyond Kumasi.

In videos shared by ‘The Palace View’ on TikTok, the priestesses approached Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with solemn grace. One young priest chief hopped on one foot before kneeling, then broke an egg and sprinkled a white substance — a gesture steeped in spiritual meaning. Another priestess crawled on her knees, striking her waist against the floor in a powerful act of submission and respect.

These moments, captured and shared online, have drawn admiration and curiosity from netizens, many of whom praised the depth of Asante tradition and the emotional weight of the ceremony.

The observance, held on August 21, followed the Asante Traditional Council’s confirmation of Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s passing on August 11. Born Nana Ama Konadu, she ascended as the 14th Asantehemaa in 2020 after the death of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

As the biological sister of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, her influence extended beyond royal protocol. She was a pillar of wisdom, a guardian of culture, and the second most powerful figure in Asanteman. Her passing marks the end of an era — but the rituals performed in her honor ensure her legacy remains etched in the soul of the kingdom.
