The World Diplomatic Federation International (WDFI) has honoured the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ashaiman, Freeman Tsekpo, for his leadership and contribution to development in the municipality.
The award recognised his role in driving infrastructure and social projects aimed at improving living conditions for residents.
The WDFI said the administration had made progress in water access, sanitation and road development.
It said the interventions had contributed to better mobility, cleaner communities and increased economic activity within the area.
A key project highlighted was the Ashaiman Main Market Redevelopment Project, which sought to transform the facility into a modern 24-hour trading hub.
The initiative aimed to improve conditions for traders while maintaining their presence in the market.
The WDFI noted that the project had been designed to ensure that traders were not displaced but rather integrated into the upgraded facility to benefit from improved infrastructure.
It added that the market redevelopment was expected to boost local commerce and support small businesses operating within the municipality.
The federation also cited the “Big Push” road initiative as a major intervention under the MCE’s leadership, as the programme focused on upgrading major roads to improve connectivity.
The projects included the dual carriage road linking Lashibi to Ashaiman and the stretch from the Ashaiman Traffic Light to Zenu, which were expected to ease congestion and facilitate movement.
Youth and education
In the area of education and youth development, the federation said the administration had supported the upgrading of school facilities and promoted entrepreneurship.
It noted that initiatives aimed at job creation had helped provide opportunities for young people in the municipality.
According to the WDFI, these efforts formed part of a broader strategy to strengthen human capital and reduce unemployment.
The federation also acknowledged steps being taken to improve security and sanitation in the municipality.
These include the installation of streetlights and the promotion of community clean-up exercises.
It said the measures had contributed to improved safety and a cleaner environment for residents.
The WDFI further commended the MCE’s approach to governance, noting that he had engaged traders, youth groups and other stakeholders in decision-making processes.
Commitment to development
Speaking after receiving the award, Mr Tsekpo said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of residents and stakeholders in the municipality.
He said his administration had remained focused on inclusive development and improving living standards.
“We had worked with the people to address key challenges and deliver projects that responded to their needs,” he said.
He added that the assembly had remained committed to sustaining development initiatives and ensuring long-term impact.
“We had stayed committed to transparent governance and would continue to pursue policies that improve the welfare of residents,” he said.
