Following previous attacks on military installations and soldiers, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) issued a strong warning to the Tema youth, announcing that any additional aggression will be handled with commensurate means.
In a statement released by E. Aggrey-Quarshie on Saturday, April 13, it was disclosed that investigations into the recent attacks by Tema youths, conducted jointly by the Ghana Police Service and the GAF, are underway.
The GAF expressed condolences to the families affected by the incidents and urged all parties to maintain calm during the investigation process.
The events leading to this warning began when a vehicle belonging to the Eastern Naval Command of the Ghana Navy was assaulted by a group of individuals during a festival in Tema Newtown on the evening of Friday, April 12, 2024.
This attack resulted in damage to the vehicle and injuries to three naval personnel, who were subsequently admitted to the Tema Naval Base Medical Centre for treatment. Three suspects were apprehended in connection with the assault.
Following this initial incident, the situation escalated when the mob targeted the Tema Naval Base and the Naval Barracks at Tema New Town (Biekro Barracks), causing further property damage.
Security personnel were forced to fire warning shots to protect the installations. Tragically, two civilians were pronounced dead upon their arrival at the Tema General Hospital. The cause of their deaths is currently under investigation.
