The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has expressed deep disappointment after a scheduled meeting with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) failed to take place, raising concerns about efforts to address the constituency’s deteriorating road network.
The meeting was expected to focus on practical measures to improve road conditions across the municipality, an issue that continues to affect residents and commuters.
According to the MP, he arrived at the MCE’s office as scheduled and waited for about 45 minutes, but the MCE neither showed up nor communicated any reason for the absence.
Shaib described the situation as frustrating, noting that poor coordination and lack of communication undermine collective attempts to resolve critical infrastructure challenges facing the area.
The incident took an unusual turn when the MP reportedly went to check the MCE’s office after the prolonged wait.
Instead of meeting the MCE or an official mandated to reschedule the engagement, he said he encountered only an individual he identified as a land guard occupying the office.
He described the situation as disturbing and questioned the security arrangements and administrative practices at the municipal office.
The aborted meeting has drawn attention to apparent challenges in cooperation between the municipal administration and the area’s parliamentary representative.
Observers say effective development particularly in tackling long-standing road problems requires close collaboration between the MP and the MCE.
For residents of Weija-Gbawe, the missed engagement represents another setback in ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure.
The episode has also raised concerns about strained working relations within the local governance structure; a situation analysts warn could delay the resolution of pressing community needs if not addressed
