Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has been crowned Best Female Artiste, Western Africa at the 2025 Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
She emerged victorious in the highly competitive category, beating fellow Ghanaian artistes Amaarae and Moliy.
In her acceptance speech, an emotional Wendy Shay expressed gratitude to God, her fans and her team for their unwavering support.
“Wow. Thank you so much. I want to say a very big thank you to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,” she said. “I also want to thank my fans, the Shay Gang, as well as my partners and label, RuffTown Records and OneRPM.”
Reflecting on her journey, Wendy Shay acknowledged the challenges she has faced as a woman in the music industry, describing it as a male-dominated space.
“It is not easy being a female artist in this industry. Anyone who knows my story knows that I didn’t have it easy when I entered the music scene. I went through a lot of bullying, but thank God I am here today,” she stated.
She also expressed appreciation to AFRIMA for the recognition, noting that the award represents an opportunity to shine a spotlight on female artistes from West Africa.
Wendy Shay further thanked Nigeria and the AFRIMA organisers for the warm reception, describing the occasion as special since it marked her first visit to the country.
She concluded by encouraging her fellow female artists to remain resilient and continue fighting for their place in the music industry.
