“We’re Not Waiting for All Petitions” — Collins Dauda Compares CJ Case to Criminal Trial
  • Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda has fired back at Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over criticisms surrounding the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. Dauda dismissed Afenyo-Markin as a “confused politician,” insisting that President Mahama followed constitutional procedures.
  • He argued that action on one petition was sufficient if wrongdoing was established.
  • Speaking during the Akwatia by-election, Dauda also expressed confidence in the NDC’s chances, claiming the party has a stronger development record in the area.

Collins Dauda isn’t holding back — and his message to Alexander Afenyo-Markin is blunt: “confused politician.”

The Asutifi South MP clapped back at the Minority Leader’s criticism of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s removal, defending President Mahama’s decision as constitutionally sound. Speaking during a visit to polling stations in Akwatia, Dauda argued that the process was transparent and legally grounded, and challenged Afenyo-Markin to point out any breach.

He likened the situation to a criminal trial, saying that if someone is charged with multiple counts and convicted on just one, the court doesn’t wait for the others to conclude — the conviction stands. In the case of Torkornoo, Dauda said one petition was enough to trigger removal if misconduct was proven.

The MP emphasized that Mahama acted in line with his oath to uphold the Constitution and be fair to all Ghanaians. He questioned whether critics were suggesting the president should ignore constitutional provisions simply because other petitions were pending.

Turning to the Akwatia by-election, Dauda expressed strong confidence in the NDC’s chances. He claimed that most of the town’s development projects were initiated under NDC governments, and accused the NPP of neglecting the area.

“The people know where progress came from,” he said. “They want an MP who can deliver — and that’s the NDC.”

With tensions high over both the CJ’s removal and the by-election, Dauda’s remarks signal a party ready to defend its decisions and reclaim ground.
